Odyssey's Grief Groups

Odyssey Logo

Odyssey provides a grief group free of charge to the community. "Richard’s Group” is offered to adults experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one.

The painful experience of losing a loved one often leaves the survivors with a feeling of overwhelming sadness. Whether a death is sudden or after a protracted illness, it can have a devastating effect on a family. When grief is severe, it can even develop into clinical depression, suicide thinking, or physical illness. Individuals can undergo a change in eating habits, sleep disturbances, and difficulties with relationships.

"Richard's Group" can provide support and help survivors know they are not alone in their grief. Other benefits to participating in a grief group include:

  • helping to connect people to their feelings.

  • helping people to learn about personal strengths and resources

  • lessons isolation and helps to create a caring community

  • creates an opportunity to both give and receive support

  • provides a place for talking about grief and seeking direction

"Richard’s Group" was formed in the memory of Richard Morrell. Richard was 43 when he died in a plane crash in Kenya in July of 2003. He served on Odyssey’s Board of Directors from 1996-2002. Donations from Odyssey board members, family and friends allow Odyssey to offer this group free to the community.
