In our history of providing mental health services to the community, we have found that nearly all individuals receiving treatment are angry with one or more people in their life. Anger can be a powerful source of energy that can motivate people to make positive
changes. However, it can also be a destructive force that causes needless pain and suffering:
• Anger is the leading cause of job termination.
• Anger is a stronger predictor of heart disease than high cholesterol, smoking or high blood pressure.
• Anger may be a factor in more than half of all auto crashes.
• Individuals with high levels of hostility report less marital satisfaction and more marital conflict.
• Failure to deal effectively with anger destroys intimacy.
