Violent and controlling behavior within a family affects all family members.
Children who witness domestic violence in their home frequently experience behavior problems, sleep disturbances and overwhelming anxiety and fear. Play
and art therapy is employed as a powerful tool to help them deal with feelings of being traumatized and frightened after experiences with domestic violence.
Due to the risk to the victims, Odyssey does not treat the victims and perpetrators of domestic violence
together. Woman who are victims of domestic violence commonly experience
trauma symptoms, low self-esteem, mood disorders, and substance abuse.
Trauma and other therapies help woman overcome the effects of the violence
they've lived with since their incident.
