Shena joined Odyssey Family Counseling Center, Inc. in May
2009 as the Coordinator of Adult Substance Abuse Services.
She has been working in the area of substance
abuse/addiction/chemical dependency for 11 years in a
variety of settings including private non –profit
organizations, the public sector, and hospital based
settings. Shena’s clinical work in addiction has extensively
focused on many vulnerable and special populations including
pregnant women and women with children, the chronically
mentally ill with co-occuring disorders, homeless veterans,
and impaired professionals. Certified under NAADAC as a
Master Addiction Counselor from 2002-2008, Shena has focused
her work on increasing the knowledge of addiction as a
treatable disease that with sustained recovery will benefit
individuals, families, the community and the workplace. She
is dedicated to decreasing the social stigma related to
addiction and mental illness and is an advocate for the use
of 12 Step recovery principles and materials in the
therapeutic setting as well as an adjunct to therapy. Shena
has also served as a grant reviewer with SAMHSA, a field
seminar instructor with Argosy University, and operated a
private practice in Atlanta for 2 years. Shena earned the
Bachelor of Social Work from Clark Atlanta University in
1993 and the Master of Social Work from the University of
Georgia in 1998. She has been licensed in the State of
Georgia as a clinical social worker since 2002. |
